McRae’s Environmental Services is the first vacuum truck, providing in western Canada, to switch to clean renewable energy. It is important to McRae’s Environmental Services to continue to provide quality service while lowering our carbon footprint. We have been members of climate smart since 2012 and follow the leading edge on environmental issues. We strive to reduce our impact on the environment by collecting data, measuring our consumption levels, and implementing strategies to reduce and reuse. The Cummins ISLG Near- Zero engines operate on 100% renewable natural gas which can be carried on the vehicle as compressed renewable natural gas (RNG). These machines have the lowest decibel rating in the industry in both engine and module noises. A carbon emissions equivalent is 12 RNG units = 1 diesel unit and on the equivalent in noise rating is 10 to 1. In 2022, we currently operate a fleet of over 100 trucks. Twenty percent of those trucks run on clean energy and by 2025 we plan to convert our fleet to thirty five percent clean energy. Our Green Fleet services the following communities:

  • Vancouver Island
  • Greater Vancouver Region
  • Gulf Islands
  • Whistler/Squamish/Pemberton
  • Fraser Valley

McRae’s Environmental Initiatives - CO2 Emissions

Renewable natural gas has been proven to be a leading change in assisting near zero engines for not just hydrovac trucks, but also for vehicles already on the road. High levels of carbon are emitted into the atmosphere with conventional diesel trucks on a daily basis. The trucking industry is on the verge of an environmental change as more and more companies are innovating ways to lower carbon emissions on diesel engine trucks and combination hydrovacs. Our goal here at McRae’s Environmental Services is to make changes in the industry to lower carbon emissions and we follow the latest trends in technology and innovations. A lot has been done to change our hydrovac equipment in the recent years. As a large consumer of diesel fuel, we are constantly searching for reductions in consumption and strategies to reduce our carbon emissions. Currently, we supply our diesel engine trucks with bio-diesel. This greatly reduces our need to drive and queue up at service stations. In addition, we have a strict no-idling policy and is committed to keeping emissions low which in return keeps us from consuming and burning less diesel.
